Buoyed by the success of their recent “Kid A” and “Amesiac,” drawn from the same marathon recording sessions, and galvanized by complacent certainties that long before them had already inspired Pink Floyd, King Crimson, or Yes, the Oxfordians of Radiohead are above all not letting off steam. In the same vein, they release this live mini-album recorded during concerts presented as events in Oxford, Berlin, Oslo, or Vaison-la-Romaine (?). Hypnotic, obsessive, and mixed with no indulgence for the uninitiated, the songs offered, mostly taken from the last two albums, gnaw at one another before appearing in their paralyzing beauty. Here, one must wait for a Morning Bell of commanding beauty to truly appreciate the substance of this tightrope-walking music. Deconstructing their rock in plain sight, denouncing conformity, Thom Yorke casts his voice over pale plains dominated by ebony and ivory hills (Like Spinning Plates), raises the influence of home-recording to the rank of major art (Idiotheque), dares moral swaying in Dollars And Cents, and gives his fans, as the ultimate reason to get hold of this eight-track release whose versions are not far removed from the originals, an unreleased acoustic track, True Love Waits.
