Description

Quill was a rock band based in Boston that gained national visibility when they performed at the Woodstock festival in August 1969. The quintet formed in 1967 and played in New England and New York over the following years, receiving positive regional press for their blend of powerful rock with elements of psychedelia and jazz, and what would later be identified as performance art. Most of the songwriting was handled by John and Dan Cole, who tended to deliver quite complex pieces that lent themselves to elaborate performances, sometimes involving strong audience participation. Their reputation was sufficient to allow them to open for artists such as Jeff Beck, Deep Purple, Buddy Guy, and Janis Joplin. The band's self-produced album is one of the best offerings of "The Bosstown Sound" and remains a cult favorite among psychedelic rock enthusiasts.
