Who Do You Love - The Recordings 1967/1972

Description

7 CD box set bringing together recordings by the legendary American West Coast band, Quicksilver Messenger Service, made between 1967 and 1972.Formed in San Francisco in 1965, the band was contemporary with local groups such as Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead, and achieved immense success in the San Francisco Bay Area thanks to their imaginative psychedelic rock, drawing influences from jazz, classical music, and folk.Their concerts were legendary due to their great improvisational ability and the interaction between the guitars of John Cipollina and Gary Duncan, brilliantly supported by David Freiberg (bass) and Greg Elmore (drums). In the late 1960s, their musical approach influenced many emerging artists in the United States and Europe (the British band Man being a great admirer), thanks to their first eponymous album from 1968 and the cult album « Happy Trails », released a year later. In 1969, the band expanded its lineup with the arrival of Dino Valenti (guitar, vocals) and the famous British keyboardist Nicky Hopkins.Although less popular than their American West Coast peers, the band's albums all charted in the US charts. This box set includes the albums « Quicksilver Messenger Service », « Happy Trails », « Shady Grove », « Just For Love », « What About Me », « Quicksilver » and « Comin' Thru », as well as 15 bonus tracks from demos, rare singles, and a live recording from 1968.« Who Do You Love - The Recordings 1967-1972 » also contains an illustrated booklet with a new essay featuring exclusive interviews by journalist Mike Mettler.
