Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives Of Q Lazzarus (Music From The Motion Picture)

Description

Diane Luckey, aka Q Lazzarus, was a talent ahead of her time. A mysterious singer-songwriter, best known for her song “Goodbye Horses,” used in Jonathan Demme’s film, The Silence of the Lambs (1991), and covered by artists such as Hayden Thorpe and Jon Hopkins, MGMT, Crosses, Urban Heat, and Electric Heat. Unfortunately, it would be several decades before her full story was finally known. To coincide with the release of the documentary Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus, Sacred Bones is releasing a collection of songs that span Q Lazzarus’s entire career, showcasing the different eras of her work and the full breadth of her personality. The first collection to receive the blessing of Q’s family, Goodbye Horses has the distinction of being her first and only full-length album. Recorded between 1985 and 1995, this treasure trove of unreleased music reflects some of the most interesting facets of pop music from the last four decades, in a way that is both sophisticated and wildly eclectic. The track “Goodbye Horses” remains a singular piece of spooky New Wave perfection, and one could imagine an entire Q Lazzarus album unfolding around this aesthetic, but like singers such as Alison Moyet, Annie Lennox, or Lisa Gerrard, Q’s chameleon-like voice could perfectly lend itself to a variety of styles and environments. For fans of New Order, When In Rome, The Psychedelic Furs, Talking Heads, Roxy Music.
