After the legendary industrial group Nagamatzu went into hiatus in 1991, Stephen Jarvis launched his solo project Pure Motorised Instinct, a name inspired by a quote from the film Dawn of the Dead by George Romero. With this project, he explores new musical directions blending ambient, new age, and industrial influences. The album At Last I'm Leaving the Earth brings together nine tracks from this period, originally released on two cassettes between 1991 and 1993, along with three bonus tracks on CD. For the first time, these recordings are available on vinyl. The music oscillates between melancholy and optimism, tension and calm. The digital synthesizers, deliberately altered by tape effects, acquire an almost analog, lively, and expressive texture. Some tracks, like "Vincent V" or "Geek," exude a nocturnal and dreamy atmosphere, sometimes close to a prefiguration of vaporwave. The whole offers a strange, cinematic, and introspective ambient, both dark and fascinating.
