Straight out of Queens, New York, Prison is a state of mind, an experience, a free collective, a group, a jam band, and a bunch of psychedelic guys who are not your typical jammers. If you're not from the New York area and haven't attended one of their concerts, here's your best chance: their flagship album, Upstate. And what a wave it is! Each song has two titles. And almost everyone sings, all the time. Prison is the sound of all the people in the room searching for their way, individually and collectively. As they move forward, the meaning changes, the destination changes, the words take on a different significance. There is meaning and nonsense, we rise and fall, we sink and soar on the back of something huge cacophonized by three guitars, four voices, a bass, and drums. A lot of information colliding and just enough time to drive you out of your mind! Prison is Sarim Al-Rawi, Mike Fellows, Sam Jayne, Matt Lilly, and Paul Major. You might know Sarim from Liquor Store. Mike has played several shows and recorded under the name Mighty Flashlight. Sam, who passed away in 2020, played in Love as Laughter – and Paul Major, you know him from Endless Boogie.
