Steve McQueen (1985): Prefab Sprout's second album, their first collaboration with producer Thomas Dolby, a brilliant electronic sound wizard. This slightly unconventional pairing resulted in one of the best British pop albums of the 80s, certified Gold in France at the time. Sophistication without preciousness, extraordinary emotion and melodies, groundbreaking arrangements for its era, Steve McQueen has just been remastered from the original tapes for an incredibly different sound compared to the 2006 remaster. 1LP, standard sleeve, download code Protest Songs (1989): Recorded in 1985 on the heels of Steve McQueen but without Thomas Dolby's production, Protest Songs was ultimately released only in 1989, after From Langley Park To Memphis, the band's third album and biggest commercial success. P. McAloon is still at his peak in composition and vocals. The production, less complex and shimmering than Dolby's, meant the album was largely underestimated at the time. It's time to rediscover it with this vinyl reissue. 1LP, standard sleeve, download code Andromeda Heights (1997): Seven years have passed since Prefab's last album, Jordan: The Comeback. McAloon gives free rein to his love for Broadway musicals and a certain preciousness: the album is extremely "produced," some might say excessively so. Andromeda Heights lives up to its name, soaring high among the stars and causing McAloon to lose some fans in the "pop" sphere, but earning him a place among the pantheon of genius composers who aren't afraid to tackle all musical genres, no matter how complex and sophisticated. 1LP, standard sleeve, download code
