Water, the debut studio album by Gregory Porter released in 2010, joins the Blue Note catalog. Marking the beginning of the singer's career with a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2011, it elevated Gregory Porter to the status of the future great male star of jazz. The themes of love and protest are its common thread, with blues openly manifesting, as well as gospel and soul. Alongside love songs like 'Illusion' or 'Pretty', Gregory Porter includes his hit song '1960 What?', energetic and vibrant, protesting for African-American civil rights. Porter also covers saxophonist Wayne Shorter's 'Black Nile', adding lyrics, and delivers a beautiful a cappella interpretation of 'Feeling Good', made famous by Nina Simone.
