Description

The New York speed rockers PONS are fired up and ready to skronk on The Liquid Self, a golden spiral into madness at sea, set to surface on cassette and streaming on October 6, 2023. Besieged by a panopticon of machine room percussion lights, The Liquid Self rises higher than the tides of fate. These eleven songs swirl like a gluttonous maelstrom that devours everything in its path. The Liquid Self seizes the murky waters of indie rock with bloody pieces of Lightning Bolt, Van Halen, and King Crimson to bring to the surface the mythical and unbalanced creation of PONS. Harpoons in hand, the trio of two drums and guitars swings, drags, and struts through oceanic horizons of playful and unbalanced garage-prog-pop inhabited by a cast of unreliable narrators; the bottom feeders carry the weight of the entire ocean on their polyrhythms. On the single "Coral King," PONS usurps the old guard of noise rock while swearing allegiance to the dystopia beneath the sea with a frothy and manic diatribe of scuzz-prog industrial, bubbling with bile and dissonance oozing from every sour note. Furious violin and fuzz riffs and a chorus of lost souls lead the procession of this brutal coronation of the damned. "Sinking Feeling" hangs at ten with bright major chords and beachy vibes anchored by floating fin guitar solos that burst through the waves like dinner time at SeaWorld. Chaos reigns on "Queen Conch," soaking the zone with splashes of misty waves of undulating percussion and tsunami-strength shredding layers. The barbed post-punk rager "Hooks" swallows the bait whole - and it turns out PONS is fishing with dynamite.
