For fans of progressive music, POLY-MATH is an instrumental band from Brighton and London, UK, that blends ethio jazz, classic prog, post-rock, and math rock. The band consists of drummer and sound engineer Chris WOOLLISON, bassist Joe BRANTON, guitarist Tim WALTERS, and the latest member, keyboardist Josh GESNER. Formed in 2013, POLY-MATH has produced several EPs and albums, in formations of three, four, and five musicians, including a double album funded by the public and two digital albums written and recorded remotely during the lockdown. POLY-MATH has been one of the standout bands at the British avant-garde festival ArcTanGent, where they performed between 2013 and 2018, including a performance on the main stage in 2018 with a three-drum setup. The music of POLY-MATH is rich and varied from album to album, drawing inspiration from artists such as the early albums of King Crimson, Mulatu Astatke, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Juan Alderete, Ill Considered, and Ukandanz. Something Deeply Hidden is the band's fifth album, delving deeper into jazz and prog while moving away from the heavier instrumentation of previous albums. This new release is expansive and diverse, emphasizing complex instrumentation and abstract polyrhythms. The album title and track titles are inspired by the book by American theoretical physicist Sean M. Carroll on quantum mechanics, Something Deeply Hidden: Quantum Worlds and the Emergence of Spacetime. Poly-Math will kick off their tour in the UK and Europe on April 10.
