Description

After a first EP in 2017 with Gone With The Weed (Sentimental), the Parisian duo returns with a maxi 45 RPM on Croque Macadam (Pearl & The Oysters, La Houle, Sex Sux). Dorothé and Mathis (Skategang, Ray Jane, Music On Hold), assisted by Alexis (Cité Lumière), trade the power pop of their beginnings for a style very much in line with Jeunes Gens Modernes/Növö/New Wave that never veers into pastiche. They still advocate for a certain idea of using French, akin to bands like Tôle Froide, Carambolage, Entracte Twist, Requin Chagrin, and Corridor. The guitar/drum arrangements of the first EP are succeeded by a more comprehensive approach, designed both in the studio and for live performances, featuring synthesizers and drum machines. The first two songs offer a new perspective on the duo's music while maintaining an obvious kinship. "Noyé" and "Cet Été" indeed confirm the pop qualities of Police Control. These compositions create a bridge between contemporary pop and 80s references such as Daho or Elli & Jacno. In the studio with Maxime Smadja (who also recorded Rendez Vous, Pierre et Bastien, or Youth Avoiders), the duo has particularly refined the guitar sound by using transistor amplifiers to achieve that dry and precise tone. The B-side of this twelve-inch maxi is entirely dedicated to "Chute Stationnaire." The epic, nearly six minutes long, evokes the best moments of New Order in its desire to bring pop to the dance floor. Born from a jam session, carefully edited by Maxime, the song opens new territories for Police Control and promises an exciting future for the young band.
