Noticed by the 4AD label in 2014 with a track released online, Pixx, real name Hannah Rodgers, released ‘Fall In’ the following year, a debut dream pop EP with enchanting atmospheres carried by a hypnotic voice reminiscent of Elizabeth Fraser from Cocteau Twins. At 20 years old, the young woman from Chipstead, in the distant London suburbs, released her debut album, The Age of Anxiety. Moving away from tales of broken hearts, Pixx positions herself on the other side of the mirror as an observer, aiming to address a generation increasingly isolated by a new world order driven by social media pressure and political instability. Named after a 1947 poem by W.H. Auden about a man seeking to fill the void in his life and find an identity in a world undergoing an industrial revolution, this debut album draws an excellent parallel with the American poet's work. The young English artist develops a gentle and dreamy yet engaged pop sound, built on electronic rhythms and carried by airy guitars, evoking both 80s new-wave and folk. A member of DIY Magazine's very selective list of bands to watch, Pixx is poised to become the new darling of a rediscovered 4AD sound (for some).
