Double conceptual album and particularly ambitious rock opera, "The Wall" is essentially the work of Roger Waters, composer, arranger, bassist, and singer, who called upon producer Bob Ezrin (Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Kiss, etc.) to give birth, not without pain, to this shapeshifting monster. Autobiographical, "The Wall" symbolizes Waters' emotional isolation as he evokes his absent father, his abusive mother, and the rigidity of an unyielding school system that traumatized him for life. The hero of this reckoning, the rock star Pink, ends up imagining himself as a dictator, his audience becomes his people, and the murderous madness into which he descends proves irreversible. To be contemplated with vigilance.
