This box set brings together all the recordings made by cellist Pieter Wispelwey (a disciple of Dicky Boeke and Anner Bylsma) for Channel Classics between 1990 and 2009: 35 recordings over 20 years and an impressive diversity of repertoires. The great masterpieces of the solo repertoire, from the Suites by Bach, recorded twice – essential references! – to those by Britten, alongside Reger, Kodály, Crumb, Hindemith, or Gubaidulina, are complemented by all the major concertos (Haydn, Dvořák, Schumann, Elgar, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Lutosławski) and also a magnificent anthology of chamber music, featuring sumptuous ensembles by Beethoven or Brahms. This anthology box set allows for a broader appreciation of the Dutch cellist's taste for instruments on one hand, and on the other, a rediscovery of his collaborations year after year with carefully chosen partners, such as Paul Komen, Paolo Giacometti, Dejan Lazic, or conductor Iván Fischer.
