Double D’Or

Description

Pierre Vassiliu is the author who brought to its peak the art - undeniably French - of wordplay. For this alone, he deserves eternal recognition. Moreover, he modestly and without taking himself too seriously belongs to those who have managed to bring influences from elsewhere that have greatly enriched French creation. Vassiliu is a brilliant slacker, just the way we like them. His passing in 2014 left a void in the French musical landscape that he occupied for more than half a century. You will find on this Double d'Or the reissue of his last two studio albums. La Vie Ça Va (1993): a "varied variety album," where themes and musical tones succeed one another, creating a dynamic cocktail where humor and love dominate. "La vie, ça va" confirms that Pierre Vassiliu is indeed among the best French musicians and that he has managed to work with reggae, Afro and Latino rhythms, resulting in a sound that is distinctly his own, which has not forgotten the taste of rock that earned him the opportunity to open for the Beatles at the Olympia in 1964. His African years have infused the tracks with their tempo, particularly a sweet and lively song dedicated to his daughter, "Lena." Parler aux Anges (1998): A grand return for Vassiliu in 1998 with this album of protest, yet tenderly named "Parler aux anges." Tenderly annoyed by the prevailing softness and general lack of passion, Pierre Vassiliu regains his former acidity. He also pays tribute to Che Guevara by covering "Hasta Siempre Commandante." This album is considered by some to be one of his most accomplished; age and wisdom must have had their effect.
