Glassworks

Description

Philip Glass is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century. His work has been described as "minimalist music." Glass himself prefers to describe himself as a composer of "music with repetitive structures." Glassworks is his most accomplished work to date as a great master of minimalism. Six warm pieces, the result of a successful attempt to create a work more accessible to the general public. The Philip Glass ensemble deploys a soft and warm minimalist sound, in an almost new age vein. Anticipating the reluctance related to financing his most expensive projects, Glass created a more accessible and commercial recording. And successfully: over 200,000 albums have been sold in five years. The tracks "Rubric" and "Façades" are featured in the 2008 documentary about Philippe Petit, Man on Wire. "Floe" is included in the soundtrack of the 1989 Italian horror film, The Church. "Opening" appears in the American remake of the film Breathless. Glassworks is available in a limited edition of 2000 individually numbered copies on translucent blue vinyl.
