Maggot Mass, the fifth album by Pharmakon on Sacred Bones Records, marks the return of the project after a five-year hiatus. This album moves away from the original rules and structures established by Margaret Chardiet for Pharmakon, evolving into a new form. It retains the project's experimental roots in powerful electronics and noise, while incorporating industrial and punk influences. The album stems from a deep disgust for humanity's dysfunctional relationship with the environment and other forms of life. It explores the loneliness resulting from this broken connection and challenges us to recognize our personal and systemic responsibility. Pharmakon envisions a path where the final act consists of giving back what we have received from creation, offering our lives and our deaths to support existence.
