Between 1959 and 1972, the German Edgar Wallace crime film series, mainly produced by Rialto Film, became West Germany's longest-running film series. The film adaptations of the works of the British crime novelist were an immediate success, notably thanks to the original use of music. Peter Thomas composed the inimitable soundtrack for nearly half of these thrillers (18 out of 38). Depending on the budget, he gave free rein to his creativity: screams, gunshots, the clicking of switchblades — he used all sound elements as he saw fit. This album brings together the 17 musical themes and six other pieces composed by Peter Thomas for the Wallace series between 1961 and 1971. It is therefore the first compilation bringing together all the films in the series for which Peter Thomas composed the music. Five tracks are previously unreleased. The CD also contains four bonus tracks already present on the compilation "Best of Edgar Wallace" from 2000, now out of print.
