In 2005, a box of tapes escaped a yard sale and wound its way through a network of collectors, record dealers, and flea market vendors to the hands of Ohio soul expert Dante Carfagna, who connected them to the mysterious Prix label from Columbus. A little digging led to Prix owner George Beter, who identified most of the uncatalogued tracks. This mysterious tape ended up on the final Prix compilation (Eccentric Soul: The Prix Label, 2007). "You and Me," a simple but irresistible demo credited only to Penny & the Quarters, was found on a studio reel. Our investigation of every member of the Columbus soul scene, including retired DJs, producers, and important local artists, yielded no recognition of the name Penny & the Quarters. Although Numero Group loved the song from the first listen, it ended up being somewhat buried on its original compilation, as #18 out of 19 tracks. Here it is as a 45-rpm single, released for Valentine's Day. Translucent purple vinyl version of You and Me + You Are Giving Me Some Other Love, the single dedicated to Penny & the Quarters' "You and Me." Originally on the Eccentric Soul: The Prix Label compilation, the mysterious group's track gets a dedicated release for Valentine's Day. Limited edition exclusive for independent record stores.
