In 2005, a box of tapes escaped a yard sale and wound its way through a network of collectors, record dealers, and junk store proprietors into the hands of Ohio soul expert Dante Carfagna, who connected them to Columbus' mysterious Prix label. A few calls later, Prix owner George Beter was located and identified most of the uncataloged tunes. That mystery tape found its way onto the definitive Prix compilation (Eccentric Soul: The Prix Label, 2007). "You and Me", a simple yet irresistible demo credited only to Penny & the Quarters, was found on a studio reel. Our investigation of every member of the Columbus soul scene, including retired DJs, producers, and prominent local artists, failed to elicit even a glimmer of recognition for the name Penny & the Quarters. Though The Numero Group loved the song from the first listen, it ended up getting a little buried on its original compilation, as track #18 of 19 songs. Here it is as a 45-single, just in time for Valentine's Day.
