Monkey Mind is the new album from the Franco-American duo Pearl & The Oysters, produced by Jonathan Rado (Weyes Blood, Miley Cyrus, Father John Misty, The Lemon Twigs, Foxygen). Despite its sunny appearance, the album was written and recorded in the context of the devastating Los Angeles fires in 2025 and Trump's second inauguration. Monkey Mind takes its name from the Buddhist concept of a restless, looping consciousness. The duo drew on their own inner turmoil to compose the album in a few weeks, using music as an outlet for their anxieties. After years spent building their complex sonic worlds, recorded at home, Pearl & The Oysters collaborated with producer Jonathan Rado, recording directly to tape with minimal overdubs and working with their Los Angeles musicians. The result is more spontaneous and more grounded in the present than anything they have done before.
