Flowerland is the third album by the Franco-American duo Pearl & The Oysters. Flowerland reveals more of the inner workings of Davis and Polack’s minds, with the pair trading fantastical stories about quirky characters for more personal narratives detailing the worries of everyday, universal life. For Davis and Polack, Flowerland was intended as an attempt to channel paralyzing emotions into an uplifting listen, rather than a deliberately heavy experience. As with all their releases, friends and collaborators from around the world left a sonic imprint on the songs on Flowerland. The album was mixed by Shags Chamberlain, who handled the mixing on Drugdealer’s albums and Mac Demarco’s last pair of releases. Guest musicians on Flowerland include Dent May, sitarist Ami Dang, Kuo-Hung Tseng of Sunset Rollercoaster, Jules Crommelin of Parcels, Dutch multi-instrumentalist Fay Lovsky, as well as the Edmondson brothers, based in Florida, who bolstered the record’s percussion.
