Angel Tears in Sunlight is Pauline Anna Strom's first album in over thirty years, a collection of music that refracts the expansiveness and minutiae of her imaginary realms while embracing the kaleidoscopic echoes of our distant eras. A mystical force in music, Pauline Anna Strom emerged at the dawn of new-age under the name Trans-Millenia Consort. A pioneer of the synthesizer, she channeled primordial energies through forward-looking sounds in a series of releases between 1982 and 1988. Little information circulated about her, except within a constellation of devoted followers who witnessed a unique legacy forming amid the (mostly male) canon of the time. Like her work in the 80s, Angel Tears in Sunlight was composed and recorded in the same San Francisco apartment where she lived for nearly four decades, in symbiosis with her machines and her "dinosaurs." Filled with a compact range of modern instruments that gather the sounds of her analog past and her beloved iguanas, the terrarium of her home forms an intimate yet limitless ecosystem defying the constraints of the outside world. Within this sanctuary, Pauline Anna loses herself in time, drawing from the ancient energies of her inner visions. Her musical equipment is at the heart of translating these ideas into sound. She makes the machine a composer in its own right. She reveals a symbiosis between material frequencies and the manifestations of nature through organic tones that mimic the melodic pulses of the primitive. Dedicating the album to her friend John Jennings, who passed away during the recording, she titled the work to reflect the sum of the process of life and loss collapsed together into an eternal spectrum. Born blind, Pauline Anna Strom learned to navigate the world largely on an auditory level and to connect with the world through her other senses. A reiki master and spiritual advisor, she passed away in December 2020. A portion of the profits is donated to The International Iguana Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting conservation, awareness, and scientific programs that enhance the habitat and survival of wild iguanas.
