Recorded entirely on acoustic instruments and performed mainly by Paul, Seven Psalms showcases Simon’s artistry at its most beautiful and captivating, simply with his voice and guitar. Paul’s lyrics form the gravitational center of the sonic constellations woven from guitar strings and other acoustic instruments — including choral elements from the acclaimed British vocal ensemble VOCES8, and a beautiful vocal appearance by Edie Brickell. True to the origins of psalms as hymns meant to be sung rather than spoken, Seven Psalms goes back to the very genesis of folk music: The Psalms of King David. The result is a peaceful and moving musical experience, revealing a wealth of subtle details with each new listen. Standing apart from anything Paul Simon has released so far, Seven Psalms defies categorization. The tone of the record is complemented by its cover art, which features a close-up excerpt from "Two Owls," a work by the renowned landscape painter Thomas Moran.
