Originally from New York (born in 1977), Paul Giallorenzo is a musician based in Chicago: an improviser, composer, producer, and sound designer. He uses piano, synthesizers, keyboards, and electronics in various contexts, alongside musicians from Chicago and around the world, exploring the realms of improvisation, avant-garde jazz, experimental music, and electro/acoustic sounds. He performs regularly in the United States and Europe. The trio's latest album, Play, extends the spirit of Monk and Nichols (with clear influences from Andrew Hill and Sun Ra) that characterizes Giallorenzo's compositional approach, avoiding unnecessary repetition and overly obvious borrowings. Abrams shines, as usual, in counterpoint to Giallorenzo's constant explorations, while Avery demonstrates restraint and precision in his contributions.
