Here is the highly anticipated second volume of the JAZZ BRUT series produced by Q-Sounds Recording. The credo remains the same: to bring together musicians for a day without them knowing the direction the recording will take. Following in the footsteps of experiments conducted by Sun Ra or more recently Damon Locks and Angel Bat Dawid, JAZZ BRUT offers a collective approach to improvisation, without hierarchy, structured by rhythm. In this volume 002, we find echoes of Hip Hop, the piano of George Edouard Nouel, or the Jazz Funk rhythms of Johnny Hammond, not to mention the influences from the music of François de Roubaix or Morricone. ""LOVE IS THE WAY"" opens this volume with a powerful rhythmic piece in the vein of Larry Willis, Johnny Hammond, or Rudolph Johnson. Over a catchy loop and a hypnotic bass line, the flute unleashes an intense ""rare groove raid."" In ""ECHOES OF A SPIRITUAL PLACE,"" the beat tightens and leans towards Kraut and Psychedelic experiences. The Fuzz and the Harpsichord give this ascent a distinctly European color, redefining the elements of Afro-American trance. ""THERE IS NO HELL BELOW, WE ALREADY LIVE IN HELL"" responds with optimism to Curtis Mayfield's dark piece. Since hell is already here, it is through elevation that each person can extricate themselves from the night surrounding them by finding their inner light. This almost narrative track outlines a spiritual path, an ascent. ""LABYRINTH"" opens side B with a Giallo atmosphere. The Labyrinth of existence resonates with the cinematic theme, and the atmospheric digressions of the piece plunge us into a beneficial mental and sonic kaleidoscope. ""ANCESTORS"" summons the ghost of Old Dirty Bastard with its rhythmic motif inherited from Hip Hop. But it is also the incantations of Randy Weston or Sun Ra that rise from this shamanic trip. Finally, ""SHOW ME THE CAGE"" concludes this record with a dreamy stroll over a classic Jazz motif. It is the softness of introspection that reveals the invisible bars that keep us caged.
