Paradise Lost released in 1990 their debut album Lost Paradise, today considered a milestone of atmospheric death metal. Formed in 1988 in Halifax, the band is among the pioneers of British death/doom and would later help define gothic metal with their landmark album Gothic. Alongside My Dying Bride and Anathema, they contributed to the rise of the Peaceville label and the English doom scene.
