With Sinister Grift, his first solo album in five years, Panda Bear, the project of Noah Lennox, offers a work that is both retrospective and unprecedented in his discography. While his previous solo albums have oscillated between deeply intimate expressions of pain and dazzling electronic soundscapes, his music has never felt as warm and immediate.Recorded in his Lisbon studio in collaboration with Josh "Deakin" Dibb, a member of Animal Collective, Lennox transforms Panda Bear into a kind of old-fashioned rock band, playing most of the instruments himself while surrounding himself with like-minded creative spirits. Among them are Cindy Lee, Rivka Ravede of Spirit of the Beehive, and, for the first time on a Panda Bear solo album, each of his Animal Collective bandmates.
