SOUTH BY WEST (VN)

Description

The PAMPA FOLKS quartet, a new exotic Parisian band, is about to release their first album, "SOUTH BY WEST." The ten tracks on the album reflect their author, Thomas Lavernhe, composer, singer, and leader of Pampa Folks. They long to travel, see the world, and break down barriers. They thrive on the movement of bodies and thoughts. They prefer to advance under a zenith sun, between light-drenched rocks and on sands similar to those vast spaces depicted on the cover of the Parisian quartet's first album, due out on June 1, 2018. South by West, a title that borrows from geography and navigation, and could have made an excellent title for a Tarantino or Coen Brothers film. It is, in fact, the most Californian of pop made in France. These songs were patiently crafted over three years by Lavernhe and the musicians he brought together for his vision: Johan Barrer (drums), David Sultan (bass), and Pierre Lelièvre (keyboards). The EP Golden Gates, released in January 2018, offered a taste of these tracks, which have found a home in a little-explored territory between 60s pop, 70s rock, and American film music, especially if the plot drives the heroes to jump on trains and sprint through alleyways. The United States, its imagination, and its cinema are the godparents of this album, yet it was conceived and recorded in Paris.
