For PACKS, making a record is not a means to an end; the creation of the album is a shared experience, bottled up for the audience to hear. On the third album, Melt the Honey, PACKS explores a state of contentment, even bliss, long avoided. The self-produced record pays tribute to the unpretentious disaffection of the grunge movement and the inventive arrangements of Guided By Voices, whose prolific production has inspired PACKS since its inception. To create Melt the Honey, PACKS traveled to Mexico, where Madeline Link had spent a lot of time as an artist in residence at Casa Lü. For 11 days, PACKS rehearsed new songs in a rented studio. From there, they took a bus to Xalapa, where they worked as artists in residence in a house known as Casa pulpo, an architectural feat away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. "The house has no straight lines; it puts you in a creative mindset," explains Link. Melt the Honey is an outward-looking testament to the wonderfully strange details of everyday life, vividly rendered by a songwriter who knows they are worthy of reverence.
