Motion I is the debut album by Out Of/Into, the collective formerly known as The Blue Note Quintet, featuring pianist Gerald Clayton, alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, vibraphonist Joel Ross, drummer Kendrick Scott and bassist Matt Brewer. The group was formed to celebrate the 85th anniversary of Blue Note Records and embarked on a long tour across the United States earlier this year, during which they honed a distinctive and progressive sound that perfectly embodies the Blue Note philosophy. “Blue Note has been a wonderful home for the community, for incredible musicians, for creativity, all these years,” says Clayton.
