Description

Formed in 2019 from the meeting of members of the Toulouse rock scene (Commando Percus, Ulster Page...), OSLO TROPIQUE sees its music as a release. The name is a climatic oxymoron, and the band wants it to stay that way: after all, we are not in such a hurry to sip mojitos in Oslo. A duality that is clearly found in the music. On one side, powerful, electric rock, ranging from garage to stoner... On the other, the poetry of the vocals, with their rare timbre, which can seduce as well as chant. The writing style, for its part, oscillates between disillusioned Kafkaesque realism and Prévert-like psychedelic absurdity. OSLO TROPIQUE released a first self-titled 4-track EP in 2021, which received more than 140 media mentions, with some seeing them as one of the revelations of “made in France” rock in 2021. This year, the band presents its first album, 'Entre Les Mains Des Robots': a futuristic projection and an allusion to the technology that keeps invading our daily lives. OSLO TROPIQUE’s lyrics deal with themes typically linked to the decadence of the 21st century: (over)consumption, technological dependence, our headlong rush in pursuit of goals ever higher than the previous ones, as in the track 'Par-dessus-bord', or the ecological crisis and the self-perception that results from it, as in 'Les camions bennes'.-- - 'OSLO TROPIQUE bets that the sweat of a pogo can awaken awareness and reflection.' On the live side, the band is attracting the interest of venue and festival programmers and, despite the very complicated health context, carried out a tour of around fifteen concerts in 2021 across France (le Bouillon, le Cargo, El Mediator, the Off des Nuits de Champagne...), alongside figures from the French rock scene such as Pogo Car Crash Control, Parpaing Papier, Fabulous Sheep or Guadal Terraz. Extremely shocked by Emmanuel Macron’s “I really want to piss them off” stigmatizing the unvaccinated, the band launched a tour ironically titled “I really want to piss you off” ahead of the presidential election. House concerts, in private venues where no one will come to “piss off” anyone.
