Description

Blue, like the deceptively calm waters of Lake Geneva. Or like the sky, in a country where it hadn’t rained for ages, the great American Southwest, for example. That dust you can hear everywhere on the first album by the Swiss band Adieu Gary Cooper comes from the long history of garage-folk, the basement tapes, the early Stones and a few Velvet bootlegs. It comes from the acoustic ensemble, and in particular from the lap steel, that fundamentally country instrument, which draws clouds with psychedelic shapes in the blue of the sky. Rock’n’roll, yes, but low voltage, plugged into 110 volts, languid and haunting. All sung in sexy French, as if Jagger had been called Michel, and produced by the aesthete Robin Girod of Mama Rosin, this album strings together a few illicit lo-fi hits, as strange as they are blue.
