Concerto pour violoncelle
Description
Damien VENTULA records in World Premiere the concerto op.99 for cello and string orchestra by Thierry HUILLET, a work dedicated to the cellist.Thierry Huillet decides to write in 2020 for Damien Ventura a work with a finale of breathtaking virtuosity and captivating energy. He therefore begins by writing this movement: after a cadential introduction, one will hear a "Moto perpetuo" out of breath, with certain references to hard rock or modern electronic music not being absent, while maintaining the link with these compositional roots inherited from the 19th and 20th centuries. Then, noticing in this movement a cell that seems interesting to him, he develops it to compose the main theme of the 1st movement. It is only at that moment that the form of Theme and variations seems to him a necessity. On this theme with romantic expressiveness, he will weave several variants in turn anxious, swaying, brilliant, to conclude with a luminous epilogue highlighting the ample and rich sound of Damien Ventula. One can therefore speak here of a cyclical and unitary work as the two movements use common thematic materials.
The Cello Concerto by Thierry Huillet, like that of Saint-Saëns, uses with great sincerity and much passion all the expressive and virtuosic resources of this wonderful instrument, in a deliberately concise form of about twenty minutes.
