The seven words of Christ are as many phrases spoken just before his death by Jesus, while crucified. They are here magnified by Haydn, gracefully served by the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra and Gilles Colliard.
Created in Cadiz, Spain in 1786 in instrumental form, the work would be taken up the following year in a version for string quartet and then, finally, with the words in the form of an oratorio.
