Lucky Number

Description

Lucky Number, the third album from the Memphis trio Optic Sink, sees the band refine and enrich its hypnotic blend of post-punk and dance music, offering an incisive and moving exploration of appearances, shadows, and illusion. Natalie Hoffmann (NOTS) has fully asserted her talent as a songwriter. Her work on previous albums (see "Modelesque" and "Glass Blocks") demonstrates her gift for exploring the darker aspects of modern life, but here, distorted mirrors are counterbalanced by a painful nostalgia and glimmers of truth filtering through the cracks. The music reflects this duality: beneath Bauermeister's driving rhythms and the precise arrangements of the tracks lie unsuspected complexities, thanks in particular to Keith Cooper's exceptional and incisive guitar and bass playing. "Inaccessible space / untouchable / glass tower / a fragile face / when you are here / where do you go?" Hoffmann overlays her voice on the sinister, nocturnal funk of "Construction." Few bands can rival the raw beauty of Depeche Mode, New Order, and A Certain Ratio; Optic Sink goes further, adding its own melancholic and incisive wisdom. Produced and recorded by Caufield Schnug of Sweeping Promises, "Lucky Number" will be released in Fall 2025 on Feel It Records.
