Catalogue d'oiseaux et autres oiseaux

Description

Visionary composer, Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) profoundly transformed the history of contemporary music by making the song of birds one of the essential sources of his musical language. Fascinated by the rhythms of nature, he dedicated his most innovative works to birds. This anthology brings together the historical recordings of the "Catalogue d'oiseaux," made in 1959 with Yvonne Loriod, the composer's favored interpreter and muse. A monument of 20th-century piano music, this vast sound fresco transposes into music the landscapes, lights, and bird songs observed throughout France. The box set is completed by the Oiseaux exotiques (1956), a brilliant orchestral work conducted by Rudolf Albert under Messiaen's artistic supervision, as well as the moving Quatuor pour la fin du Temps recorded in 1957 with the composer on piano. In this major work of the 20th century, written in captivity during the war, the song of birds becomes a symbol of freedom, spirituality, and eternity. Patrick FRÉMEAUX Booklet 8 Pages
