Brilliant Polish musicians (Izabella Szalaj-Zimak, Rafal Kwiatkowski, Adrian Janda, and Robert Morawski), affiliated with the Chopin University of Music, present a new interpretation of Olivier Messiaen's masterpiece, the Quartet for the End of Time. The work combines mysticism, synesthesia, and a musical language of great originality. Each performer appears both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, while the intertwining of instrumental timbres conveys the character, meaning, and wartime context of the creation of the work. Messiaen's music captivates the listener from the very first notes. Often ethereal, it is never fragile; powerful without ever being aggressive. The Quartet for the End of Time is imbued with references to the spiritual dimension of human existence, to communion with God, and to an openness to the transcendental perspective of eternity.
