New group from trumpeter Olivier Laisney. After several years alongside Magic Malik, he returns with music blending jazz, hip-hop, contemporary music, traditional songs, and Palestinian poetry. The idea for this project emerged from his encounter with Osloob Abdelrahman, a singer/rapper/poet. Olivier Laisney, having developed alongside flutist Magic Malik a written and improvised language revolving around Olivier Messiaen's modes of limited transposition as well as tonal signatures, a harmonic system created by Malik. "I have always been drawn to genre blending, regardless of the medium. For this new project, I wanted to bring together the colors of Messiaen's modes (a synesthete and devout Catholic) with traditional Arabic songs. From the very first rehearsals, the alchemy surprisingly worked. The melodies sung by Osloob immediately found their place within the clusters of colorful notes derived from Messiaen's modes."
