Slowly We Rot

Description

After thoroughly exploring the Deicide catalog, we now turn our diabolical gaze toward another extremely influential death metal band from Tampa (there must be something special in the water!). We are, of course, talking about Obituary, which, like Deicide, counts two brothers among its ranks: drummer Don and the unparalleled vocalist John Tardy. Released in 1989, Slowly We Rot is, quite simply, probably the most savage debut album ever recorded; reactions at the time ranged from Ozzy Osbourne's exclamation: "They are completely insane!" to journalist Phil Alexander's declaration in the pages of RAW: "This is the kind of album that makes you foam with rage." What further reinforces its cult status is that SWR was the first record produced by Scott Burns, who would go on to become an essential reference in death metal.
