For its 30th anniversary, the Real World label is releasing Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's legendary 1985 Womad concert from its archives. In July 1985, an eclectic music program unfolded at the WOMAD festival on the secluded plains of Mersea Island, Essex. On Saturday, July 20th, at midnight, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Party took to the stage. What transpired over the following hours was truly unforgettable. Singing for the first time before a non-Asian audience, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan transcended boundaries with his music and forged a long and fruitful relationship between WOMAD, Real World Records, and Peter Gabriel. Four of the best songs from this concert have been selected for this anniversary edition. This is a raw, visceral live recording. The songs expand and grow in a way that rarely happens in studio recordings. The album includes a full 21-minute version of the iconic song Allah Hoo Allah Hoo. For 34 years, and until today, this remarkable concert had remained locked away in the archives. The original analog tapes have been carefully restored and digitized.
