For its 30th anniversary, the Real World label is reissuing from its archives the legendary concert of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan at Womad in 1985. In July 1985, an eclectic program of music took place at the WOMAD festival on the remote plains of Mersea Island, in Essex. On Saturday, July 20 at midnight, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Party took the stage. What transpired in the hours that followed left a lasting impression. Singing for the first time in front of a non-Asian audience, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan transcended boundaries with his music and created a long and fruitful relationship between WOMAD, Real World Records, and Peter Gabriel. 4 of the best songs from this concert have been selected for this anniversary edition. This is a live recording, raw and visceral. The songs stretch and grow in a way that rarely occurs in studio recordings. The album includes a full 21-minute version of the iconic song Allah Hoo Allah Hoo. For 34 years and up to today, this remarkable concert had remained locked away in archives. The original analog tapes have been carefully restored and digitized.
