Airy synths, groove, cavaquinho... The project of Franco-Luso-Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Tiago Ribeiro draws inspiration from Brazilian music, with lyrics written in Portuguese, his parents' language. Under the name Niteroy, a nod to Niterói, a city bordering Rio de Janeiro, the young Rennes-based Tiago Ribeiro seeks to create his own saudade by infusing the unique groove of old sambas into pop compositions with refined and classy arrangements. He sets to music his fleeting loves, his strolls on the beach, and his childhood memories in Brazil. The result: songs that feel like they've always been known, obvious, immediate, and contagious. One is reminded of Mac DeMarco's lo-fi pop cozying up to João Gilberto's bossa nova!
