A journey to the imaginary land of little Piaf Nicola Són tells the story of Edith Piaf and her repertoire through the values of Brazil: no exoticism, neither at the start nor at the finish. You hear neither the grand accordion gestures of suburban expressionism, nor the flights of yellow and green feathers that some Europeans believe sum up Brazil. Nicola is French, a child of Paris’s 9th arrondissement, but also a little Brazilian by force of circumstances. Starting in 2010, he recorded three generous albums in Brazil that travel through the endless palette of rhythms of this vast country. Brazilian musicians, Franco-Lusophone lyrics. For the Edith Piaf project, Nicola called on his friends and accomplices from Casuarina, notably Daniel Montes, the group’s guitarist and arranger. Under his direction, Piaf’s classics then slip into very Brazilian forms - a jongo with funk carioca colors for Padam, padam, a carimbó for Non, je ne regrette rien, a northeastern rhythm for La Vie en rose.
