Bend Me, Shape Me - Radio Broadcast Glastonbury Festival 2013
Description
The fifteenth studio album by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds was released on February 18, 2013, on their own label, Bad Seed Ltd. Recorded at La Fabrique in the south of France with producer Nick Launay, it is the band's first album without Mick Harvey, a founding member who left in January 2009. The release of Push The Sky Away also marked the return of Barry Adamson, a founding member, for his first appearance on an album since Your Funeral... My Trial (1986). It was also the last album featuring keyboardist and pianist Conway Savage before his death in 2018. The album received critical acclaim. Allmusic rated Push the Sky Away three and a half stars out of five, while James Skinner, a music critic for BBC Music, described the album as "a record much stranger and subtler than the previous Bad Seeds release" and "an LP as dense, captivating, and brilliant as anything the Bad Seeds have produced." In his review for The Guardian, Dave Simpson gave the album four stars out of five, describing it as "songs with a funereal rhythm and stripped-back music evoking Leonard Cohen and the minimalism of James Blake," and drawing comparisons to The Boatman's Call (1997). Before the album's release, Cave announced his intention to perform at Humphrey's Concerts By the Sea in San Diego, California, on April 16, 2013. This announcement fueled rumors of the band's participation in the 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which was later confirmed. An Australian and North American tour accompanying Push the Sky Away was also announced. Several dates at major European festivals were subsequently scheduled. The band performed at Primavera Sound in Spain, NorthSide Festival in Denmark, Exit Festival in Serbia, and Greenville Music Festival in Germany. On June 30, 2013, the Bad Seeds played at the annual Glastonbury Festival in the UK. Among the highlights of the tour, the concert at Worthy Farm allowed fans to hear some tracks from their new album, as well as many signature songs from their extensive repertoire, as is tradition at Glastonbury. The entire concert of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds from this legendary performance, previously unreleased, is now available on this new CD.
