Released in 1986, Kicking Against The Pricks, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds' third album, is primarily composed of covers. Nick Cave said that this album allowed the band to develop musically. Regarding the choice of songs, "they are all played for different reasons; a list was made and we tried to play them, we tried songs by all kinds of people, which were never added to the album; some were tributes, like the Tom Jones one, and others were songs we didn't think we had done particularly well.
