For those already familiar with NI, the title of their third album can only raise a smile. 'Fol Naïs', literally "born mad" in Old French, was the term given to the fools and jesters of great historical rulers. This symbol of impertinence could not be more fitting for this new release from the most unclassifiable of Rhône-Alpes quartets. Complex, dissonant, unruly – that much is obvious. But its formidable inventiveness and unexpected danceable side make it a luminary in its musical niche. Math Rock? Noise? Metal? Jazz? NI takes another step forward in its quest for the Grail, deploying as much jest as wrath. "More metal, more noisy, punky, groovy, more in-your-face." --- LE PROGRÈS ---. "NI slaloms between math rock and noise rock, with the greatest freedom and surgical precision" --- MOWNO ---. "Once the initial impression of chaos subsides, one discovers finely composed music rich in hooks: gimmicks, riffs, melodies, atmospheres, groove. A perfect grower." --- NOISE ---.
