Lightsleeper

Description

The first collaborative album from father-son duo Neil & Liam Finn. Recorded primarily in Neil’s Auckland studio, Lightsleeper is full of melodies and twists that bear the Finn family signature. When Liam’s lo-fi atmosphere meets Neil’s iconic pop sensibility, they converge with intimacy and wonder, quickly prompting the question of why this father-son duo never collaborated before. The Finn family philosophy of making music with family and friends is even reflected in the personnel recruited for the album: Sharon Finn – Neil’s wife and Liam’s mother – plays bass on two songs, Elroy Finn – Liam’s brother – plays drums on seven, and their good friend Connan Mockasin appears on four. Their Greek friends Elias Dendias and Spiros Anemogianis contribute bouzouki and accordion to ‘Back To Life,’ and the legendary Mick Fleetwood is featured on ‘Anger Plays A Part,’ ‘Any Other Way,’ and ‘We Know What It Means.’ This characteristic spirit of musicians at their peak, bound together by an unwavering desire to create music that is not merely the reflection of a year’s work but something crafted with body and soul and the fully conveyed euphoria of being alive, is what makes Lightsleeper such a magnificent progression in the Finn family’s musical history.
