Neil Gaiman and the Australians of FourPlay String Quartet are releasing their first album together and Neil's first album! Neil Gaiman is one of the most beloved and famous writers of our time. His work transcends genres, ages, and formats, spanning novels, television, film, short stories, comics, radio plays, theater, and more. He is the author of Coraline, Stardust, and Sandman, which was recently adapted by Netflix into a television series and became the most-watched series on the platform in its first week of release. He has also written novels like Good Omens (co-written with Terry Pratchett) and American Gods, which have also been adapted into series for Amazon Prime. FourPlay String Quartet is a unique proposition in the world of string quartets. More of a band than a classical ensemble, FourPlay improvises, blurs ideas, and uses instrumental techniques and effects to create surprisingly original pieces. The collaboration between Neil Gaiman and the FourPlay String Quartet began in 2010 at the Sydney Opera House's Graphic Festival, where the two artists came together for a stage performance. This collaboration has developed over the years, and Neil and FourPlay began working on a series of original works around the concept of the zodiac, with the traditional signs replaced by a new collection of words and objects exploring aspects of life. A collaboration they called Signs. Some of the pieces from Signs of Life were developed for this project. Alongside these original works, there are new poems and stories by Neil created with FourPlay's music, two covers of previous projects by Neil, and an instrumental inspired by Neil's works. Neil's mastery of storytelling and his art of wordplay are unmatched; he is a true master of rhythm, a musical performer. Signs of Life is a beautiful, revolutionary, and innovative collaboration between an iconic author and a singular musical ensemble. It consists of songs, poems, and narratives; it is complete, captivating, and magnificent. Signs of Life is released on Instrumental Recordings, with a cover designed by artist Shaun Tan. The CD is presented in the form of a CD book.
