Character Actor EP

Description

A 5-track EP of brand new, previously unreleased material from The Near Jazz Experience (Terry Edwards, Mark Bedford & Simon Charterton). Whilst recording the new album Terry asked pianist Mike Garson (best known for his work with David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails & Smashing Pumpkins) – with whom Terry has toured, if he’d like to play on a track. Mike said yes, recorded a superb solo for Character Actor in his home studio and sent it over. All within 24 hours.On hearing the piano part, NJE bassist Mark Bedford had the idea to blend the piano with the original track (as planned), but also to use it as a basis for a whole new recording with the piano leading rather than complementing the band. Side 1 of the EP features these two very different versions from the same seed.Stand-alone tracks that found their way together onto this EP because in one way or another they have cinematic qualities.Side 1 features 2 versions of Character Actor (the title a nod to Cracked Actor, a tune on Aladdin Sane, the album that introduced Mike Garson to Bowie fans), and Side 2 features The Loping Four; Projector; MacGuffin & Lockstep, all titles that contain strong cinematic elements, MacGuffin in particular.
